As with the Sylvans, the Aelfar really don't seem to need that many of their
own terms.
Annwn: The Wildwood itself, the home and the world of the Aelfar. Also the
place where the Horned God dwells, so deep within the Wildwood that no
outsider has ever found him and returned to tell the tale.
Arawn: The King of a Court, named for the first High King of the Aelfar.
The Arawn of a court traditionally deals with the matters of peacetime and
the future of the Court.
Bardioc, Bard: The storytellers, as inviolate as the Derwydd but walking a
different path. Becoming a Bard requires a great deal of training, and it
is a vocation rather than a job. (Singular, Bard; plural, Bardioc)
Broch, Sidhe: The usual Aelfar dwelling, a hollow hillock large enough to
hold a pair of adult Aelves and their children.
Derwydd: The priests, each dedicated to one of the two greater Gods of the
Aelfar. Keepers of mysteries and instruments of their God's will. Becoming
a Derwydd requires a great deal of training, and most novices never survive
to become Derwydd. A Derwydd's life is a vocation, not a job. Derwydd is
both the singular and plural term for the Aelfar priests.
Geas: A commandment, given at birth, which an Aelf must not break. If a
geas is broken, the Aelf concerned must make his way into the Wildwood and
take whichever death comes first with dignity. Plural: Geasa
Morgase: The Queen of a Court, named for the first High Queen of the
Aelfar. The Morgase of a court traditionally deals with warfare and other
matters of the heart.
Wyrd: Fate, the happenings which will befall an Aelf and the thread which
can be read by the Horned God. It is an Aelf's Wyrd that determines what
shape his next body will be.
